Rocking your sUX off with Caravel 2

This is the biggest update we’ve had so far. If you’ve been using the previous version of Caravel, here’s what you should know for a smoother transition:

A fresh look

UX Doc — Caravel 2.0

Why:

It was about time.

We aimed for a fresher look, but most importantly, a design that would be 100% content-focused. This allows you to display all UX/UI content with the least possible clutter, and helps everyone pay attention to what really matters: good UX.

The 🆕 navigation

Caravel 2.0

Why:

Many of you felt that boards were a bit limiting when doing regular iterations. For example, we sometimes ended up with a single board — which was a waste of space, simplicity, and ease of navigation. We fixed this in the simplest possible way: There are no more boards 😲

Now each project will have a number of sections to help you identify a theme, a project stage, or even a skill set within your team. You can scroll through the whole project to navigate sections and re-order them whenever needed.

⚠️ For existing projects: ⚠️

For those of you who DID use several boards, we made sure we can migrate your projects without messing up with your content. This is how your boards will show up in the new version of Caravel.

Caravel product navigation — Before and after

To sum up: All your pages are now accessible from a single Workspace, and we added an extra tag to identify your old boards. We figured this will be a good transition to cleaner and smarter projects 😉

No more “Edit mode”

Why:

We wanted the max number of users to contribute and edit docs throughout projects. To add an extra layer of security, we’ve made it easier to change project permissions when you invite a new user.

Page discussions

Page discussions — Caravel 2.0

You can now start conversations around pages, provide prompt feedback, notify teammates, and talk about next steps. Look for the 💬 icon towards the top right of each content page to access its discussion panel. Type in your messages and make sure to @mention someone who’s invited to the project to automatically notify them via email.

Why

This has always been a 🗣️major feature request. To be honest, the execution couldn’t be simpler. But it’s the result of a lot of research and tests.

Each page deserves its own discussion — there’s always a clear scope and context to what’s been said. On the other hand, by keeping things on a higher level, we avoid focusing on micro details and losing sight of the main project objectives (remember: UX is not about one or two product screens, it’s about the whole experience).

Integrations

Sketch and JIRA integrations have been really appreciated. But everyone asked for more. And we heard it.

You can now integrate with a series of useful UX tools:

📋 Google Docs, Sheets, Slides (great for reports, interviews, and specs)

🔨 InVision/Marvel/Figma (because UX design without getting to show prototypes is just sad…)

Coming soon — 📷 Unsplash (add beautiful images to your UX docs with one click )

Coming soon — 📌 Pinterest (inspire your team with visual boards)

Brand new templates

Why:

We’ve heard it from our users. We felt it ourselves. The role of a template is not to give you constraints, but to speed up and inspire your daily workflow. In 2.0, we’ve done just that. Our new templates won’t mess up with your project structure, but give you bites of UX content that will save you time and put your team on the same page from the first day.

When typing your content, look for the “+” to pick one of our templates.

Revamped pages

The UX doc (aka. the old Blank page)

Our new favorite. And if you love UX, it should be yours too. Think about a single document to tell everything you have to tell about a product in one sit (strategy, research, inspiration, ideas, prototype… more tests, ideas, prototype… you got the point)

Text, images, integrated Google Sheets
Live InVision prototype

The page was completely re-designed to give you a 100% focus on UX content. And with our new integrations and templates, your UX content will shine like diamonds. 💎💎💎

Screens (aka. the old Annotated screens)

Caravel 2.0

Slideshow (aka. User Stories)

Caravel 2.0

Simple is better

We figured it was time to keep things simple. Especially because there are a bunch of tools out there that made some jobs much better than we did. So we decided to discontinue two types of pages. We hope this will also help you focus on what really matters.

- No more Code sample

- No more Colors

😮 I can’t wait any longer! Just let me in!

Okay. There’s just one last thing: by default, Caravel 2 will not import your current projects. But they will be safe with us and you can still access the older version until September 15. If you want to migrate your projects, please drop us a message within the app so we can help you out.
